The Loire's finest…

For this first article dedicated to the exceptional Clos Rougeard “wine o'clock” auction #94, we will focus on two iconic appellations – Saumur “Brézé”, a legendary white wine, and Saumur-Champigny “Le Bourg”.

The Saumur “Brézé” from Clos Rougeard is the estate’s only white wine and one of the Loire Valley’s finest expressions of Chenin Blanc. The Brézé terroir benefits from a limestone and chalk-rich soil, providing the ideal conditions for growing this noble variety. This exceptional natural environment imparts striking minerality and vibrant tension, complemented by pure, deep aromas. Known for its remarkable aging potential, this wine offers a perfect balance of elegance, structure, and richness over time.

Le Bourg” is undoubtedly one of Clos Rougeard’s most coveted wines and a benchmark for Loire Valley Cabernet Franc. This prized parcel, located in Chacé, sits on a subsoil of chalky tuffeau stone, which lends the wine exceptional finesse and minerality. Aged in oak barrels, this wine develops complex, layered aromas while maintaining incredible aging potential, making it a sought-after treasure for collectors and connoisseurs alike.
